Life After Divorce

True.com

If you've recently gone through a divorce, or are facing one right now, expect your emotions to be on a rollercoaster.  During the divorce process, and after a divorce, it's natural to feel disoriented and possibly suffer loss of confidence.  To keep your head, remember that this is a phase, and that eventually, even if it takes time, you will regain your footing and get your life back.

Adding to the frustration, sadness and anxiety, you may be saddled with new financial responsibilities, increased parenting tasks and more household work. Add to this dealing with feelings of aloneness, unresolved issues such as anger and resentment towards your ex and often less free time than before - and you can be quite overwhelmed.

First of all give yourself a break.  Don't beat yourself up, but realize that you are handling a lot more responsibilities than during your marriage, and it will take time to get the new patterns down. Give yourself some time to get adjusted; spend time on weekends to see friends so you can have some support, or treat yourself to little indulgences.  Even an hour or two of relaxing can help.

Individual or group counseling is recommended to help sort things out, there are subconscious issues of self-worth, confidence and other matters that you are dealing with along with your day to day needs.  There are many excellent marriage counselors and programs available in all areas today.

Remember that you will make it and will adjust to all these changes and become a much stronger person. Try to keep a positive attitude and believe in yourself. Even when it comes to interactions with your spouse, try to take the high road instead of getting into bitterness and anger.  The way you handle your emotions and attitude will affect you probably more than anyone else - so be good to yourself.  Keep your head high, and get on with your life.
